After senior high school, my desire to become my own boss intensified.
Right after high school, I got involved with Affiliate marketing, MLM, Network marketing, risky High Yield Investment Programs etc.
I made some good money from my hard work and persistence from these ventures.
The money I made was quite huge then that time.
Can’t recall the exact figure but I remember I accumulated thousands of dollars over 2 years in my e-currency accounts: Payza (which was called alertpay those times) and Liberty Reserve.
Liberty Reserve is however no more because it was believed it was being used by drug traffickers and other criminals to transfer money across the globe.
The Costa Rica based company was shutdown by the USA government eventually and all funds seized!
Anyway, the next plan was to withdraw the funds in my e-currency accounts and save it in my bank account at least, then make plans on what to do next with the money.
A day before I went to the bank, a friend of mine ‘introduced’ me to this online firm, which was very popular those days.
I’d heard about it about a year and half ago before my friend suggested it to me, but I’d always sat on the fence.
He was making quite some huge sums monthly over there: around 8,000 Cedis a month.
That was no joke at all, 8,000 Cedis(80 million) back then was no child’s play.
Moreover, I also knew of this other guy who was making it very big in this program.
This guy was travelling around the world with the money he made from this investment- Dubai today, Malaysia tomorrow, Singapore next day.
So I decided to give it a shot.
The Investment Program:
Silly and greedy me, I invested all of the $$$ I made from my mlm, hyip’s etc and set the investment period for 8 months I think.
The returns I’d have made after 8 months were huge and I was already dreaming of trips to Barbados and Bahamas, and I even made a list of some stuffs I was going to shop for hehe!
Everything was ongoing smoothly and I could see updates of my earnings in my back office.
This program had been running smoothly for about almost 2 years years then, and had made a lot of people money while I sat on the fence.
Only about 4 months after I got into this, news broke that the program had been shutdown! Damn, why me?
Was it bad luck or bad timing?
I can still feel the pain as I type this.
You know, aside it going bankrupt due to their compound returns, one of their major online payment processors was Liberty Reserve.
Liberty Reserve had just been shutdown by the US government and a lot of funds in Liberty Reserve were seized.
Years before it was shutdown, an embargo was placed on all liberty reserve transactions.
This had a directly tremendous impact on the coffers of this program, forcing the owner to shut it down.
Reality hit me that I had lost all the money made from my hard work. I got depressed and didn’t know what to do.
Another silly thing I did was I had the opportunity to go study in a College in New Jersey where a family friend was a senior administrator.
I was suppose to sit for SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) but I invested my SAT tuition and application fees in this program, hoping to withdraw some profit after 5 months to pay for the tuition when it would be due.
Time was eventually almost up to commence my SAT studies and I didn’t know how to explain to my folks that I had lost the money; that would have been world war 3 at home!
Plus I had PROMISED a man I was going to help him make some good returns on his investment, so he gave me quite some huge sums to invest on his behalf
Foolish me, I invested this money in this program too!
You know, I didn’t force him to invest, I met him at a business seminar in Hotel Marjorie, where we exchanged numbers.
He later called me for my suggestion on a solid investment program.
The mistake I made was I ‘PROMISED’ him that I was going to make him money.
My plan was to keep a percentage of his returns on investment for myself; you know the deal, that is business.
But as you already know from all the above mentioned, it backfired!
This man started hunting me after 4 months; he suddenly turned into a monster because of money.
He threatened to come to my house and ask my folks to pay for it.
He sent text messages every second, called me every morning…..
I asked for help from friends whom I knew could easily cough out some money to help out but astonishingly, they said they had no money, even friends I had helped time and time again!
I couldn’t ask for money from my relatives and family friends too because they would have called my folks to inform them.
Damn, I was in a deep mess!
Had To Find A Way:
I had some little funds on me from the little tips I got at home.
I decided to gamble with it.
I visited casinos to play Roulette to double my money.
Luckily for me, on the first day I tripled my money.
I used half of that as stake for a football bet which I won.
I then went back to play the roulette with that amount and luckily for me, I doubled it.
I eventually made quite some money from gambling and I paid the man half of what I owed him.
But I wasn’t free, I still had to pay for my SAT tuition and application fees plus half of the money I owed this man.
I reserved some of the money I made from gambling to gamble with it, to make more to settle my debts, at least for a peace of mind.
I went back to the Casino to play roulette and this time I lost everything, damn!
I didn’t know what to do now plus this man was on my neck again.
So I thought it wise to ask some of my high school mates whom I wasn’t even close friends with for help.
Those I was friends with all said they wouldn’t be able to help.
One lesson I learnt from this was that when you are in die need, friends abandon you and strangers rather come to your aid.
Friends To The Rescue:
Astonishingly this dude Nana Kofi, who was my junior back in high school sent me some $$.
This wasn’t a close friend in high school; we were just on ‘chale whats up and ‘how are you doing’ terms.
I even had to lie to him about why I needed the money cos it took a lot of boldness to do this, as I really hated that.
He didn’t even care about the reason, he just wanted to help.
Another person who came to my aid was Fafa.
This was a guy who got mad at me all the time during high school days because I teased him a lot.
Surprisingly, this was another guy who came to my aid!
And the most shocking of all, these lovely twins : Lydia and Linda, I knew them from nowhere but they offered to help, though I didn’t tell them the main reason why I needed help.
I invested what I got from these good ‘samaritans’ in a fresh high yield real estate investment program.
The trick about hyips(high yield investment programs) is that you get in quickly when they set up, make your money and get out. I was confident about this because I had the experience plus I was very knowledgeable about hyips back then.
I could almost predict when they were about to exit those days.
I was able to fully settle the man in about a month and a half from this investment and finally got back my peace of mind.
For the SAT exam, I eventually lost interest in studying abroad so I told my folks I was no longer interested.
About the SAT fees, I just told them i was using it to pay for some computer classes.
Surprisingly, my dad of all people didn’t ask for receipt, hehe.
Amazing how you could easily come up with a lie when you have a peace of mind.
This is all in the past now, don’t judge me hehe.
