Just a quick one I just drafted at the beach peeps…
In brutal honesty, a lot of you in the university now are just wasting your money on academic fees, if the main reason why you enrolled for that course of study is to earn a good living via job security, after graduation.
If I could go back in time, I would ask my dad to hand over my uni fees to me: I’d rather sell Waakye on Instagram or import Cheap goods from Alibaba, then go to Uni later.
Don’t laugh! Aunty Muni waakye and the owner of Tema Hanch Jollof are both richer than you!
Sadly, regardless of your first class degrees, most of you will end up as underground musician managers, sales agents for insurance companies, phone repairers, contract staff if you are lucky, makeup artists, and social media hype men.
Why won’t you invest that money into your makeup artistry, mini importation business, vlog, barber shop etc, now that you can afford it, and enroll for studies at the uni later when you are comfortable?
Most jobs even pay peanuts as salary; you would be fortunate to earn 3,000 Cedis a month.
A lot of these bank tellers and mobile network customer care executives that you are scared to approach, earn a meager 700 Cedis a month!
Your business will eventually pay more than your job if you run it properly.
If you love your job, combine the two.
A university degree is not the key to riches, it is the key to living from hand to mouth.
The key to living a comfortable life is starting a business at a young age and applying ingenuity to stand out from the rest. You could do a part time while studying as well, and go full time after graduation.
Ask your folks to stop giving away all their savings to these institutions, and go look for a spot with no barbering shop close by, set up one, employ a barber and start cutting the hair of the people in that vicinity.
Better still, brand your business properly and start selling your unique delicacy on instagram.
Back when I was an employee with only a degree and diploma certificates to my name, I sat in the same office with a masters degree holder- we earned the same salary, bonuses and allowances!
Hardly will any company hire you as a manager lately, just for the mere fact that you hold a masters degree.
There are better alternatives with wealth of experiences.
The type of businesses you look down on, are what made owners of Kfc, zoomlion, McVities biscuits, Dangote group, A1 bread, Darko farms, etc, well to do.
Renew your mind.

“With incomes stagnant and the higher cost of debt payments and tuition, students are paying more to earn less”.
